  12. Hello,
  13.    I am getting a new 28.8 fax/modem - no voicemail needed.  I will be
  14. sharing one line (no distinctive ring for diff. numbers) with an answering
  15. machine that is set up to answer the phone after 4 rings.  I understand
  16. that there are modems that can distinguish between incoming fax and voice
  17. calls. Do they answer the phone and wait for the fax tones?  I'm really
  18. lost on this one.  Could someone please explain how these modems work? 
  19. Ideally I would want the modem to distinguish the type of call in the
  20. first 3 rings - if a fax, take the fax, if a voice call, allow the phone
  21. to get the 4th ring and then answer the phone. Direct email is preferred. 
  22. Also, I need recommendations for such modems/software for the Mac.
